Our Story
“Growing up in Jackson, TN, I spent several moments over at my Grandparent’s house. Being the only grandson for 12 years, I was attached to my Mama Pug’s hip. At the age of 11, my Mama Pug called me into her kitchen and looked me in the face. She told me that I needed to learn how to cook so I didn’t have to depend on anyone for me to eat. And by 13, I knew I had a passion for baking.
As the years went on, I started baking for close friends and family until I entered a contest at my mother’s church. And my dessert was chosen as the best! At that point, I made a business decision and started selling whole pies after church service was over.
When I turned 30, my life took a U-turn. I became addicted to drugs and alcohol until I was eventually admitted into Memphis Recover Center in Memphis. While I was there, I was given the opportunity to bake for the residents and staff. When I saw the smiles on everyone’s faces, I knew I had found purpose. I immediately wrote down a business plan and started my journey all over again. Ten years sober and 10 years later, Mama Pug’s Sweets has come into fruition."
